February: André Alexis

André Alexis was born in Trinidad and grew up in Canada. His novel Fifteen Dogs, won the 2015 Scotiabank Giller Prize and the Rogers Writers’ Trust Fiction Prize. Alexis has worked extensively in radio and has hosted multiple shows with the CBC.

We’ve created a Book Club in a Bag for Fifteen Dogs—maybe you’d like to host your friends for an evening of talking about this “whimsical, dark and penetrating tour of ideas — about consciousness, time, belonging, mortality, art and love.”

You have a chance to see Andre Alexis in Wolfville on February 8 at Acadia University, as  part of the Authors@Acadia series.

Visit the Authors@Acadia Facebook event for more info.

Our February contest

What is Book Club 150?

To celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday, we are highlighting a different Canadian author or illustrator for each month of 2017. To celebrate with us, we encourage you to read the books, join our online conversation, and enter our monthly contests. Our featured books include titles for kids, teens, and adult readers. Pick up a copy at your local library, look for a Book Club in a Bag to share, or find a library Book Club near you. We’ll have special events and contests throughout the year, so be sure to visit our library website at www.valleylibrary.ca, or look for feature posts each month on our new library blog site, RenewYourCuriosity.ca.
